Cookie Time is Almost Here...

Cookie Sale
January 19 - March 4
$3.50 per box

Goals:
Have fun!

25 boxes per girl (with a minimum of 18 boxes sold, each girl will earn a badge)

At the January 13th meeting, we will have the girls discuss their goals, and see what other things we can do if more cookies are sold.

Ideas for Selling:
Booths ~ We will be entering a council wide and district wide drawings for booths. I would like for each girl to work at least 2 booth times if possible. (If anyone knows of any businesses ~ restaurants, banks, stores, etc. that would allow us to have a booth, please let me know.)

Red Wagon Weekends ~ We can go around our neighborhoods as a troop to sell cookies together (January 21 & 22 ~ best to do this the first weekend before people buy cookies elsewhere)

Adopted Families

Don't forget we will be working on the packages for our adopted families at the December 2nd meeting.
We had originally adopted one family but I added a second one once I saw all the items Katerina and I had collected for them.
Family # 1:
Mom and Daughter
Misty (age 6)
Family # 2:
Mom and 2 Daughters
Angel (age 9)
Bianca (age 4)
We will be collecting toiletries and snacks for them! By assisting with this, the girls will earn their light green petal for being considerate and caring.

Postcard Exchange

The Postcard Exchange will be taking place from October 2011 through February 2012. The girls have decided they want to try and exchange postcards with at least one troop in every state.

I have started contacting troops throughout the United States and we currently have troops in 33 states who have confirmed wanting to exchange postcards with us.

I was going to ask parents to bring in postcards for us to use but I decided to email some nearby attractions and see if they would donate some postcards for the troop to use instead. And we have gotten lucky, Valley Forge and the Philadelphia Zoo have both donated postcards and so the troop won't need to purchase any.

If anyone has any postcards stamps they can donate that would be appreciated. We still need 35 stamps.

Meeting Two ~ 11/11/11

At this meeting, the girls talked about what they were thankful for this year.

They worked together as a group to create the Troop Rules. These rules will be displayed at every meeting and with that the girls were able to earn their Orange Petal ~ Being responsible to for what I say and do.

We also discussed some projects we would be working on this year:
Troop Pen Pals ~ Daisy Troop in Wellington, Florida would like to be pen pals with our troop this year.
World Bazaar ~ We have been assigned the country of Italy. We will need to research girl scouting in Italy and make a table presentation to be displayed at the World Bazaar in March.
Postcard Exchange ~ The girls would like to try and exchange postcards with at least one troop in each state.
Lip Sync ~ The girls would like to participate in this event in April. We will need to select a song from the 90s which the girls can sing and dance to. Cianna's mom (Nicole) has volunteered to assist the girls with the choreography for the event.

At the end of the meeting, they worked on making a Thanksgiving Napkin Holder which they could use during their Thanksgiving celebrations at home.

Meeting One ~ 10/28/11

At this first meeting, the girls introduced themselves to the troop. The learned about Girl Scout Promise and the Girl Scout Law.
We also learned about Juliett Low, the founder of he Girl Scouts. The girls loved hearing that the Girl Scouts would be celebrating their 100th birthday this coming year.
While decorating their "Girl Scout Promise" craft, the girls had a great opportunity to learn about being honest and fair. We discussed what they considered honest and fair and they divided up all the supplies equally. And so, they were able to earn their Light Blue Petal ~ Honest and Fair.
We also talked about the family care package we would be putting together at our December 2nd meeting.

Meet the Leader of Troop 21870

I am Aymee Comas-Diaz and I am so excited to be the troop leader for Daisy Troop 21870 this year!

My Background: I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. I attended Florida State University where I got my degree in Creative Writing and Italian. After graduation, I moved back to South Florida and I married my college sweetheart, Jeffrey. I worked at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) and earned my Master's degree there in Conflict Management and Resolution.

I worked in many different areas of the University during my eight years there, continuing education, conference management, student housing and finally special events. As the Assistant Director of Special Events, I had the opportunity to work on many different wonderful events but it was many evening hours. And so, in 2009, I decided to leave and become a stay at home mom so that I could spend more time with my kids.

Jeffrey and I were blessed with two wonderful kids, Katerina and Phillip. We moved from up from Florida at the end of February of this year. It has been a great experience and we all love it here. I am so happy to be able to work with and get to know your girls this year. I am truly honored to get to work with Daisy Troop 21870!
