New Brownie Blog

I have started working on our new Brownie Troop Blog.

Please make sure to visit the site and subscribe to receive email updates as I will begin posting all of Brownie Troop information on that site.

Food Drive Update

On Sunday, July 10th, we delivered all of our Food Drive donations to the BCHG Doylestown Food Pantry. Our goal was to collect 100 pounds of food in celebration of the 100 years of Girl Scouting. I am very excited to say that we not only reached our goal but we exceeded it! In the end, we collected 296 pounds of food!

There were several families at the Food Pantry while we were dropping off our donations. I can't even begin to tell you how thankful they all were. Thank you for all of your help with this drive.

Girl Scout Tree Initiative

We are participating in GSEP's GIRL SCOUTS FOREVER GREEN initiative of planting 10,000 trees statewide.   We will be planting the saplings (either Eastern White Pine or Eastern Hemlock) in honor of Girls Scouts 100th Anniversary and will also help contribute towards the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's goal of planting 1,000,000 trees by 2020!

Our troop has been allocated 3 trees to plant. So, now we have to decide on a place to plant them.

WHERE to plant a tree:
1. Where you have permission to plant
2. Where it’s easy to tend (Water? Access?)
3. As a public amenity, wildlife enhancement, riparian buffer
4. Choose the right tree for the right place (Under wires? Wet area? Salt exposure? Will it obstruct sight line for vehicles or pedestrians?)

If you have any suggestions for a good place, please let me know as soon as possible.

Meeting Eight ~ 5/11/2012

At this meeting, the girls started with by decorating a pengiun pillow. (The penguin was the mascot for the Girl Scout Cookie Sales this year). After the decorations (hopefully) dried, the pillows were filled with stuffing. Unfortunately, we did not have enough to close the pillow opening. So, there are two options for that. You can 1) sew the opening shut or 2) glue the opening shut. If you choose to glue the opening, make sure you have a clip of some sort to hold it closed until the glue dries.

After snack time, the girls made mother's day cards and filled mini buckets with candies for their moms.

The meeting finished with the troop getting to see all of the postcards we received through our postcard exchange. Each girl, received a map of the US where they marked off the states as we read the postcards we received. The postcards were divided amongst the girls to keep.

Our next meeting will be our last meeting for the year: Friday, May 25th. The girls will be earning their last petal.

Brownie Uniform Update ~ 4/24/12

I have had some questions regarding the Brownie Uniforms, so I am going to try and answer them here...

Sash or Vest?
The girls voted to have each person decide whether they want the sash or the vest. So, it will be up to your own Daisy as to whether she wants to wear the Brownie Sash or Vest.

How much is the Sash or the Vest?
The Sash is $21.75 and the vest is $33.65.

What is included in the price of the Sash/Vest?
Included in the price is the vest, brownie insignia tab, troop numerals, council ID patch, and the american flag patch.

What other items will be needed?
Please remember, that as far as Council is concerned your daughter is in uniform as long as she is wearing her Brownie pin (which the troop will provide) and everything else is optional.

To try and have a uniformed look, I think it will be nice if the girls could wear brown bottoms, a white shirt, and either the vest or sash. Now, it will be up to you and your daughter how to complete the look.

For example, Katerina will be wearing brown leggings, a white Brownie Troop shirt, and the Sash.

When is payment due?
If you would like for me to pick up your items at the Council store, then your payment is due to me on or before May 11th. I will be going to the store on May 12th.

PAID (as of 5/11/12):
Paree (Sash)
Katerina (Sash)
Cianna (Sash)
Sophia (Sash)
Allison (Sash)
Ava (Sash)
Claire (Sash)

If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Meeting Seven ~ 3/23/12

At this meeting, we got to see a presentation from the Bucks County Dairy Princess. The Daisies learned about the importance of eating healthy and they even got to make some tasty butter.

We also read a Daisy Flower Garden Story where we learned about "Respecting Myself and Others". The Daisies talked about some things that they can do in their lives to respect themselves and others. They each received a goody bag with soap, a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and a hair brush. With this lesson they were able to earn their Dark Purple petal  (Respecting Myself and Others).

We also talked about our Cookie Sales. The Daisies were asked if selling cookies was something that showed they were strong and courageous. We all agreed that their participation in the Cookie Sale would allow them to earn their Red petal (Courageous and Strong).

We also discussed the Brownie Uniform for next year. The Daisies were allowed to vote for whether they wanted the Brownie Vest or the Brownie Sash. The final vote was 5 for the vest and 2 for the sash. Although, the troop decided that they didn't mind if some had the sash and some had the vest.

Our cookie sales have been going great! Almost all of the girls were able to reach the 50 box goal which is wonderful! We will be able to go to Build a Bear and to the movies as the girls voted upon.

The last day to submit any cookie order to me is this Friday, February 24th. This will give us enough time to get the cookies, process payment, and close the sale before the Council deadline of March 4th.

I currently only have Peanut Butter Sandwiches and Thanks a Lots in stock. That does not mean I can't get other cookies though. A local Cookie Cupboard has opened up for troops to pick up individual boxes of cookies. So, please don't hesitate to ask for any cookies.

As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Also, don't forget to let me know if you need anymore cookies. If I do order any more cookies, it will only be to fulfill orders submitted to me before Friday. Cookie Sale Update

The troop had a goal of selling 300 boxes of cookies! Each Daisy had a goal of selling a minimum of 50 in order to help us reach that goal.

I am happy to announce that the troop has already doubled their goal by selling 600 boxes of cookies. Plus, almost every girl has reached their ndividual goal of selling a minimum of 50 boxes. So, they will definitely be able to go to Build a Bear as they wanted, plus they will be able to decide what else they want to do with their cookie sale money.

We currently still have 100 boxes of cookies left. I am looking at whether we will need to order any more since we still technically have a couple of weeks left of the sale.

If you have any orders for cookies at this time or know you will need some more cookies, please let me know as soon as possible. So, that I can determine whether we need to get any more cases at this point.

Meeting Five ~ 1/27/12

The meeting started with us reading a story about the Daisy flowers learning about the importance of respecting authority. Then, we had a visit from Mr. Croyle who also talked to the girls about respecting authority. They then worked on a thank you card for Mr. Croyle.

The girls have now earned their magenta petal ~ respect authority.

After snack time, they worked as a team to create some cute penguin charms.

We talked about our cookie sale...the troop had sold 350 boxes at that point. So, the girls were excited to learn that we had reached our initial goal of selling 300 boxes!

Our next meeting will be Valentine's Day themed! The girls are going to have a Valentine's Day Card Exchange. So, please make sure your Daisy brings a card for each of the girls in the troop.

Homework Assignment Reminder...

Remember that in preparation for the World Bazaar in March, I am asking that all the girls do some research on the country we have been assigned.

Italy

What language do they speak?

What are Girl Scouts called there?

What foods do they like to eat?

What are some cool cities and places to visit?

Please have them bring this information with them to the January 27th meeting.

So, we finally got a song approved for our Troop's performance at Lip Sinc 2012.

Rehearsal's will be scheduled and I will let everyone know the dates and times for the rehearsals as soon as a schedule is set.
